I've been a part of theatre for many years now, both in Brighton and all over the UK since the first time I stepped on stage as a 10 year old playing the dentist in Little Shop of Horrors (well actually the first time on stage I sung the Ugly Duckling song and got angry that it wasn't my solo-but that's all in the past now.) Being on stage performing to a sea of faces didn't make me nervous, but gave me a confidence, a dizzy kind of rush that can never be matched. For once, I felt passionate about something, and excited by the prospect of performing, of having people's appreciation. Performing was the first thing I ever really needed in my life and remains so today.
From then to now I have performed with local companies such as Brighton Theatre Group, in HONK, Strangers, Godspell, and Children of Eden with React, Les Miserables as well as a concert If Life Were a Musical where I and my trusty sidekick, Jude, were requested to write the title song. In addition, I have been a part of other theatre groups and theatre productions including West Side Story, Sweet Charity, FAME!, Featherboy, Anything Goes and Oliver, to name but a few.
I have also been involved in straight theatre including Lord of the Flies, Bouncer's, Blue Remembered Hills, The Birthday Party, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Crucible, Vinegar Tom, Woman in Black, Mill on the Floss and Much Ado about Nothing. I am also a member of the National Youth Theatre where I spent a rewarding summer two years ago and the National Youth Music Theatre, where I performed Little Me at the Bloomsbury Theatre London and Goblin Market which I later went on to perform in the Edinburgh festival. I have also been a part of many devised projects with Brighton Little Theatre and I got the opportunity to assistant direct His Dark Materials handed to me by Felicity Clements, for which I am extremely grateful.
I have also written songs with my associate, Jude Obermüller. We were asked to write songs for the play, Gregory's Girl, and are in the process of finalizing our own musical, Forbidden Fruit. I value Jude's friendship and, above all, it is our wonderful relationship that has made this production work seamlessly.
